Where She Went ~Review

"First you inspect me
Then you dissect me
Then you reject me
I wait for the day
That you'll resurrect me

Where She Went is the sequel to Gayle Forman's If I Stay. This book was at first rather hard for me to get into. For starters it was from the view point of, distressed rockstar, Adam Wilde. It is always different when the author switches the perspective from one book to another.

Second, I was just so upset with Adam and Mia, and how their whole situation turned out. But as soon as I got to, maybe a fourth of the way in, I was hooked. This book had me falling in love with the messed up Adam, and feeling sympathy towards him. I couldn't help it. Each time I turned the page I wanted to jump into the pages and tell Adam that I was more worth it than Mia was.

Points to Forman for being able to evoke these feelings out of  her readers. It always pleases me when an author can do this. Then again, I may just be a total sap. But oh well, I like being able to connect to the characters.

Again, I feel it is important to have the synopsis of the book in every book review. So, here is what is on the back of the book.

It's been three years since the devastating accident... three years since Mia walked out of Adam's life forever.
Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is rising star at Juilliard and Adam is a bona fide rock star, complete with tabloid headlines and a celebrity girlfriend.
Then chance brings the, together again, for one night.
As they explore the city that has become Mia's home, Adam and Mia revisit the past ad open their hearts to the future - and to each other.

Compared to the first book, I felt that Forman continues the story smoothly. During the course of the second book we learn more about what happened to Mia and Adam after the events of the first book and how that mentally and physically affected them both. We get to see a lot more of "Shooting Stars", the band Adam belongs to.

As far as which one I feel I enjoyed more..... Well, I think that Where She Went happened to be a lovelier story line. But! You for sure have to read If I Stay, in order to really get the full effect of the sequel. This isn't a series where you can pick up the second one without reading the first and expect to know what happened.

All in all, I give this duo a double thumbs up and a five star rating. These two books had me balling and thinking about how much I have to be thankful for. Nice job Gayle Forman!!! She is definitely one of my favorite authors now.
