Clipped Wings ~Review

"Everyone has scars, Tenley.
If we're lucky, they're only on the outside."

Back of Book:
An emotional love story that follows the touch-and-go relationship of Hayden and Tenley; two young people who desperately want to love and be loved but are afraid to completely let go of their pasts.

As Hayden and Tenley navigate their newfound but slightly unstable relationship, they want to trust each other, but Hayden is hiding a dark and shameful past that he doesn't ever want Tenley to find out about. And Tenley has secrets of her own that could make Hayden run away forever. When Tenley asks Hayden to put a beautifully elaborate tattoo across her back, the two form what they thought was an unshakeable bond. But when Tenley's past shows up on her doorstep, will Hayden stand by her side...or run?
I really truly enjoyed this story and would highly recommend you read this. It is a fabulous contemporary romance that had my heart pitter patter-ing in good, bad, suspenseful, and steamy ways. Loved it! What I didn’t love was the cliff hanger. If you are going to read Clipped Wings, you are going to need to have Inked Armor on standby.

Before this book, I honestly didn’t find tattoos or piercings attractive…. Key word is before. After reading Clipped Wings I find that they sure can be attractive, sexy even. Hayden was probably the hottest guy I have ever read about. The way Hunting described him, not going to lie, I want him to be real. Out of all my book boyfriends, (Will Herondale, Will Cooper, Noah Hutchins, Jem Carstairs, Patch, etc.) Hayden is the most mouthwatering. *Please don't ever make this into a movie. I will be completely crushed by whoever is chosen to play Hayden. There is no way anyone can look the way Hayden does in my head. I will only be disappointed.*
Okay, enough about my new crush. HAHA. This book is rated RRRRRR, for sexual content and tension. The actual story was complex. There were so many thoughts and emotions threaded into this story. Both Hayden and Tenley have a broken past that has lead them to the people they are today. I couldn’t help but hurt for both of them. But then I was so in love with both the characters as I read. It gave a little reminder that no matter what is going on in my life it could always be worse and that I am the one who decides how I react to those events. Both Hayden and Tenley were so brave and had so much love to offer despite their past.

The book focuses more on Tenley's past than Hayden's (his is in book 2). The tragedy that Tenley' overcomes is truly amazing, I don't think I could be as strong as her. The more I learned about her, the more I was routing for her and Hayden. Hayden, our sexy tattoo artist, I have a lot of respect for him. Although he is a tattoo artist, he is hesitant about who he puts ink on, he's also not someone who backs down from a challenge.
I love Hunting as an author, she is so good at making the secondary characters stand out and has them very developed characters. If there is one thing an author can bring to a contemporary book is realism. In life you don’t just have two people that are completely isolated from other humans. Having the secondary characters have an active role in the storyline only enhances the book. In Clipped Wings the friends and family were just as involved as Hayden and Tenley were, maybe even more important than Tenley and Hayden too.
This is one steamy, sexy, hot, book that I would advise not reading in public unless you want everyone to see your cheeks, scarlet. Almost every chapter I read had me biting my lip and blushing. But in a good way! Despite all the steamy scenes, there was a story playing out between the pages. A story of trauma, discovery, hope and hopelessness (Yes, you can have both at the same time. Don’t argue with me.). I wasn’t expecting most of it so it was a surprising journey along the way.
