Illuminae ~Review

“You have me. Until ever last star in the galaxy dies.

You have me.”

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

BRIEFING NOTE: Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

This book is definitely on my all time favorite list and one of my favorite books of 2017. EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK WAS PURE PERFECTION. When I started this, I was skeptical. I'm not a big sci-fi reader.... I have too hard of a time comprehending all the spaceiness. (Yep, this is now a word). Not only is this Sci-fi but it is told through emails, IM's, surveillance footage and audio file...... how could you get a 600 ish page book out of that?!

BUT OH MY GOODNESS. Not only did I get a complete story, but I loved every second of it. I was on the edge of my seat and unable to put this book down. I flew through it and before I knew it, I was finished. I have no idea how Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman did it but they sure did.

This is Star Trek meets Zombies meets IRobot. OH MY GOODNESS!

I didn't realize I could gather so much information and develop character so extremely well without an actual traditional story. But you gain so much about the character, Kady and Ezra. You even learn to love the crazy ADIAN.

OH MY GOSH GUYS!!!! You all have to read this book. It was phenomenal and words don't do it justice! It's beautiful and creative and addictive! I want more! MORE MORE MORE!
